Halloween, History and Legends

***

Hey guys, welcome back! I wanted to post a little something extra this week in honor of the holiday as I am a great lover of Halloween. I love the ghost stories, the classic specials (bring on the Great Pumpkin!) and of course, have to watch Teheran movies that get me in the spirit of the season…House of Wax, , Practical Magic, Addams Family, Poltergeist and the original Halloween. (Btw, you can make a drinking game out of Halloween, take a drink every time PJ Soles’ character says ‘totally’. 😂)

For a little Halloween #tbt…if you didn’t know, I ran the Stamford CT website, What’s on the Menu? for 11 years. One thing I have been very vocal about is the over development of unneeded buildings while destroying our local history in the process. As both a history buff and lover of ghosts and legends, I decided one year to run a post featuring some lost legends of Stamford.

Stories such as the Stamford witch trials, the haunting of Fort Stamford, the forgotten village of Dantown and the tragic railroad crossing known as Selleck’s Cut are just the tip of the hidden history that I would write about every Halloween.

It became a yearly tradition, each post featuring four or five different stories and being published at 12am on the dot on Halloween. I thought that maybe if folks learned about the history of the area in a more fun way, they’d want to save it more. It was something that I not only loved to do and took so much pride in, but worked so hard on. I would start as early as April because the research for each story was so intense often writing and editing right up until a 11:59pm on the 30th. While I no longer maintain the site, I have kept it up as an archive and have integrated the history section into my newer, personal site. I’ve also been planning for years to put these stories into a book, but life (and a writing a novel) have kind of derailed that idea for now. Although an ebook may be a future idea! Anyway, the links to each post can be found on my site New Chapter Cove and in the spirit of the season, I invite you to come and check them out:

And that is where I will leave you for today, Enjoy, get spooky and most importantly…learn where you live. Save our history wherever you may be.

Until next time,,,cheers all!
